Onestopenglish has closed. The Parlora Library is open.

For a quarter of a century, Onestopenglish was the default. Lesson plans, worksheets, audio, video, flashcards — more than 700,000 registered teachers across over 100 countries used it, and a great many used it weekly. Macmillan Education closed the service at the end of June 2026.

If you have gone looking for a lesson plan you have relied on for years and found it gone, you are not imagining it.

What happened

Macmillan announced the closure in early 2026, saying that what teachers need today goes beyond content on its own, and that closing the service gave them room to rethink how they support teachers in future. No successor has been named.

Two things matter if you were a user:

• The full library was opened to everyone before it went. From 2 March until closure, every registered user could access the entire catalogue, including material that had previously sat behind the subscription. Teachers who downloaded during that window kept those files.
• Paid subscribers were reimbursed. Anyone whose access extended beyond 2 March was automatically refunded for the unused portion.

If you did not download anything in that window, there is no archive to fall back on. Assume what you did not save is gone.

What the Parlora Library holds

The Parlora Library is a teacher-built collection of downloadable teaching material, currently 160+ resources tagged English and around 610 across all languages. It is built for adult learners — professionals, migrants, university students, retirees — rather than primary classrooms, so the register is right for the rooms most ESL teachers are in.

Every document is tagged three ways: by CEFR level, by category, and by format. You can go straight to conversation material at B1, or grammar worksheets at A2, without opening twenty tabs and guessing.

Worksheet, reference, exercise set, lesson plan and video — filterable, so if you need something printable in the next ten minutes you are not scrolling past videos to find it.

What it costs, and what you keep

There is no credit system. You are not rationed on downloads, and you are not asked to top up halfway through planning a week of lessons. What you download is a file on your own drive, which — after June — is the part that matters.

If you teach on Parlora with an active tutor profile, Library access is included.

If you make your own material, you get paid for it

Most teachers have a folder of things they have written themselves over the years. On Parlora, uploading it earns: $2 for every 200 unique views on a document. Nothing to price, nothing to negotiate, no shopfront to maintain.

That is why the collection keeps growing, and why it is weighted toward the material working teachers reach for rather than what a publisher decided to commission.

Rebuilding your shelf

Twenty-five years of resources went offline in June, and the teachers who are fine are the ones who had already saved what they used. Whatever you build back with, build it somewhere you can download from and keep.
